Thank Goodness for Special Needs Swings

took baby to the park for the first time today and dropped him in a kiddie swing.

he was not impressed. had teen get into the special needs swing and put him on her lap. he got the hang of swinging in a matter of moments and when we put him back in the kiddie swing...

words cannot describe the joy he experienced. nor the sorrow when we took him out.

  • I agree! I have written and called our parks department multiple times through the years to request more special needs swings at our local parks. My son with autism outgrew the "baby swings" well before he could balance himself on a regular swing. At the time I only knew of one, at one park. My son is now 15 and has outgrown swings - but I do see the special needs swings often now and I love it for those that have little ones.

  • Such a sweet picture (the smiles!) (And I think teen is gorgeous.) So nice that she was game to help him out so he could figure out what swinging was all about, and know for himself that it is a GOOD thing!

Good thinking on your part (that he just needed a different angle "into" the experience.)

And yeah, sometimes life is all about grieving your losses so you can move on to the next fun thing.
