When did your kiddos stop taking a nap during the day?

I am a very strict parent so i dont play games when it comes to what i want done, i get it done. So im not necessarily asking how you get your kids to nap when they refuse because i dont give in to my daughter at all. What i say goes. But when it comes down to it, i can not physically make her sleep! I make her be in her room and lay down for an hour but i can no make her physically fall asleep. So my question for you is when did your kids stop napping? My daughter is 2 1/2 and some days if we have had a playful morning, she will tell me she wants to nap. But most days i will lay her down and she will be in her room talking to herself lol

Btw- I do NOT keep ANY toys in her room at all so she understands that her room is for relaxing. She has her bed, a dresser, a rocking chair with some books. So i know she is not up playing with toys. Is there just an age where kids stop taking naps?? I was hoping to continue her having a nap up until she started school! If she doesnt take a nap between 12:30 and 1:30, by 5 or 6pm she is being crazy fussy and bedtime is not till 8:30pm so it makes for a long, rough evening!

  • I still nap! Not every day, but every opportunity I can find. Sometimes I have to make the opportunity happen or I get grouchy!
So, when do kids stop napping? Depends on the kid - I never outgrew mine :-D

  • Every child is different of course! My DD stopped taking naps on weekends around age 3. At school she started skipping some days around age 4. She's 5 now and doesn't nap at all unless we're on a long car ride.

If she is fussy at 8:30, consider putting her to bed at 8.

  • 2 1/2 for both of them!! Not all kids need naps past that age!

  • My Son was 5. He only stopped because I had his sister & she napped at a different time & he couldn't sleep with her being awake. He is a rocket & really needed his 2 hour nap. Now he's in Kindergarten & I see how tired he is when he comes home.

  • At three and a half when she started going to preschool. She decided she was much too old for naps at that point.

  • I think they were about 2, maybe 3, but no older than that.

  • All of mine were around 3, but they still had an hour of "quiet time" in their rooms on their beds until full day kindergarten.
