Meat! Good or bad? Left out.

Monday I took some small steaks out of the freezer to thaw and then once they were pretty much thawed I put them in the fridge....they've been in the fridge ever sinc, and I haven't been able to cook them but I want to cook them tonight! Safe? Not safe?

  • Smell them, if they smell nasty don't cook them.

  • They might be good, but like funlovin said, I'd smell them. If they still smell good, I would definitely cook them tonight.

  • I like my steak medium rare, so I wouldn't, but you might make something else like steak sandwiches or something, but if you don't cook them today I would throw them away!

  • I agree about smelling them, but also defrost them in the frig overnight when needed. Don't defrost at room temp....not healthy ad they will last longer if defrosted in frig.

  • When in doubt, throw it out.

  • If it's looks greenish and smells, throw it out.
But beef can last a while on the fridge depending how cold you keep it. 2-3 days, it should be fine.

  • probably fine- if they look and smell ok then they probably are

  • Did you immediately put them in the fridge from the freezer, or on the counter?

I know when I take things out and stick it in the fridge on one day, they're usually still frozen til just before dinner the next day. I would say they're fine. At this point for me they wouldn't have been thawed for more than 24 hours yet, which isn't much. If they smell worse than the normal raw meat bloody smell, toss them.

  • If it's not turning greenish yuck and still smells okay I'd cook it tonight.
