Was G.W. Really a conservative?

Why is George W. Bush always touted as this big conservative when he spent so much and started so many government programs? He spent us out of the surplus Clinton left us with and then kept on spending. How is that conservative?

  • Nope, he was a neo-con. He's about as conservative as a donkey is a horse.

  • W. was a conservative in that he spent on tax cuts and defense spending, (traditionally conservative stances) reduced entitlement and social programs and is a social conservative... That being said, I don't think anyone would ever consider him a fiscal conservative.

  • He was conservative in values not in money management, and yet he never spent the amount 0bama did in the first month in office. In fact no other sitting president in history has.

  • He was not. He spent more on Social Entitlements and other Big Governement programs than anyone else has before. Obama will spend even more than him but for a Republican he spent like a Kennedy on a three day drunken bender.

  • Conservatives don't go to war they're not "peacemakers" in the world. They also don't charge wars, expecting future generations to pick up the tab. They are supposed to be fiscally responsible. By what definition could he be considered a conservative?

  • Nah he was not conservative

  • I think he started out conservative, but like so many other conservatives before him, he "reached across the aisle" too many times, and got slapped time and time again, by the very people he championed.
