The length of a rectangle is 9 more than its width. Write and solve an equation to find the width of the rectangle if its perimeter is 38 inches.

• I don't know if this is the right way to do it according to algebra, but what I came up with is:

38-(2x() =
38-18 =
20

4 times X equals 20

x = 5

(5+9)+(5+9)=5+5 = 38

• Ugh! Not worth BA, LOL

• X is the width; X+9 is the length. Perimieter is 2 widths plus 2 lengths. So 2X + 2(X+9) =38. 2X + 2X +18 = 38. 4X = 20. X=5. Going back and plugging it in you have width =5 and the length = 14. 5+5+14+14 = 38 for the perimeter. Please double check my work!!
