  • Sometimes it's easier to get a voucher in the county/state you are in and like Anon said, transfer the voucher. You do not have to get on the waiting list in the new state you want to go to. BTW, the new state doesn't have to have any money available for you. The county/state you are leaving pays the bill in the new state. I know because I'm going through this right now and learning as I go along.

  • Contact the state you want to move to and see if the list to sign up is still open.

  • You should be able to transfer the voucher you have to the other state.

  • You should be able to, theoretically, transfer the voucher. However, check carefully with the state you want to move to because many programs are so full and so far behind that there are waiting lists even to transfer, or eligible transferring vouchers are randomly picked by a lottery system. Good luck!

  • You could transfer your voucher *if* where you are going doesn't have a wait list... which it likely does. Just because you move doesn't make the new state/county have the money available.
