Heat or Ice

My knee is killing me today. I originally hurt it back in July, this is just a flare up. Already took an anti-inflamatory. So which is better, heat or ice? I should know this but I am drawing a blank right now. Crafty or Brawny, I know one of you guys can tell me.

No I am not going to the doctor. So go ahead and get points by suggesting it if you feel like it. I just need to know which is better for my stupid knee.

  • Crafty would say ice and she would scold anyone that said heat, so I'm going to go with ice.

I hope you feel better soon.

  • What was the injury? And do you have any swelling?

  • I would try ice. If it doesn't give you significant relief you can always switch to heat.

And if you have some Icey-Hot rub you get the best of both worlds. Or Tiger Balm.

  • You will rarely go wrong with ice. The treatment protocols have changed pretty significantly and so, saying that, I feel pretty comfortable with recommending ice. Twenty minutes on

  • I think ice would be good if the injury was new, but heat will relieve the pain somewhat....

  • I have anold ankle injury. My Dr. says when it flares up to take Ibuprophen and then ice for 20-30 minute. Leave it alonefor 30 minutes and then warm heat not hot. He and I are fans for tiger balm also and that can be used in place ofr the heat.

Repeat as often as needed and keep elevated during the hot and colds.
