If your child rips the knees of their jeans, do you put on a patch?

Or is that not cool :P ? What do you do when they are pretty new jeans & they get a rip on the knees?

  • For middle school age or teens, I'd let them wear them with the hole in them, but for younger kids I might do some 'cute' patches like these:

  • For that age I would probably sew up the rip or patch it from behind to stabilize the hole and retire that pair to playing or working in the yard.

  • I don't. Kids love holes. They would go in with the rest of his play clothes.

  • I used to put patches, but my son doesn't like the way they feel and doesn't wear them. I save them for summer and turn them into cut off shorts. My husband hates it, but last summer I had just bought my son 2 jeans and within a week he had put holes in them. I am not rich. I can't spend $10-$15 on jeans to have them use only for a week, then spend another $10-$15 on shorts in the summer. So I made shorts.

  • Toughskins jeans have a reinforced knee so they are less likely to wear them out. Sears sells them.

  • My mom used to patch our jeans, but my stepson wouldn't be caught dead with patches.
