Easy way to peel and chop garlic?

Can anyone give me tips? I hate peeling. It takes forever.

  • take large knife and smack it with the broad side of the blade. This should cause the 'peel' to come loose enough to just be plucked off easily. This will also break the garlic to where you should not have to chop it to much- as it is already somewhat smashed.

  • I just buy already peeled cloves from my green grocer. I get a medium size deli container filled with peeled cloves for about $2.50. Years ago I took a knife skills class at our local grocery store/cooking studio. Once you learn how to use your knives properly it goes really fast. A little kosher salt on the garlic acts as an abrasive and makes it easier to chop them finer.

  • Use a garlic crusher - you don't have to peel and the garlic is pulped as it comes through.
