Using the tragedy that happened in Newtown Connecticut for his political agenda. The governor in Connecticut already signed into state law one of the nation’s strictest firearms restrictions. What part of "Shall not in infringed" does he not understand?? Its up to the individual states to make its own laws when dealing with gun control and other various laws such as needing ID to vote. Since he seems to be so hip on having stricter gun control, why doesn't he start with his hometown of Chicago? A city that comes in dead last for federal gun prosecutions? How many times does someone have to beat the dead horse before they realize its dead? Bad guys do not care. You can do all the background checks you want to do a million times over, but if a person wasn't caught and convicted of a crime, how is that gun store owner gonna know he is selling that handgun to a stalker who is going to take it and kill the person that they are obsessing on? Or the paranoid schizophrenic who was never in court and was deemed mentally incompetent. The drug dealer who by some miracle was never caught.
If a person's fingerprints are not in the system, the gun store owner and the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT will assume that person is a law abiding citizen, and they will be allowed to purchase a firearm. And if the person's prints are in the system and they will not be allowed to purchase a gun, so they will break into a gun store and steal the guns, buy a gun from a gun runner from a drug cartel in Mexico who perhaps got them from our own ATF, (sorry had to throw that one in..lol), or hit a person who is already armed legally over the head and grab the gun. There are so so many different ways in which to obtain a gun if a bad guy wants one bad enough.
The federal government needs to deal with MUCH more important issues like the nuclear threat with the nutjob in North Korea, and the pesky little billion dollar deficit problem. Cause as it stands now, the debt-to-GDP ratio is above the critical 90% benchmark, it's more likely our creditors will get antsy and start to demand their money back. This is exactly what happened to create the eurozone debt crisis.
Now don't get the panties all in a twist, and I am not saying the gun control issues are not important, because they are, but it should be up to the individual states to enforce the current gun laws they have (Chicago), or make new ones up. The government needs to butt out and let the states handle it own business in any manner they choose to. We all are independent people who can think for ourselves, and we do not need our government telling us what to, and how to do it.
