Jay Z and Beyonce's trip to Cuba...WTF were they thinking??

What are your thoughts on this?

The US bans any type of tourism down there for the fact the money has the possibility of being spent to further the Cuban government of systematic approach to violate human rights abuses, including torture, arbitrary imprisonment, unfair trials, and extrajudicial execution. Many are blaming the Obama Admin for enforcing these laws that is supposed to prohibit this.

  • WTF were they thinking? Oh yeah ... they weren't!

Or they were thinking they have money, therefore they're the special people and can do whatever the hell they want to.

  • Lots of Americans have traveled to Cuba, they just usually fly out of Canada or Mexico first.
Honestly, I don't understand this ban & why it's still in place. Americans can go to China with no issue & they are communists.

Exactly. China's human rights abuses are legend. So don't talk to me about money......we turn a blind eye to what the Chinese government does to it's citizens, to Buddhists, etc., because they hold a lot of our debt.

  • as someone who traveled to China...with the Military's blessing...ive gotta say this is not something i would choose to get worked up over. they had permission (which is more than what most get) and i think the tourism embargo is stupid. it is an outdated policy that didnt even accomplish its goal (other than making Cuba a poorer country).

  • Anyone can go to Cuba, you just need the visas and proper documentation. We use Yalla Tours to send clients there. As for the musicians, they should not make a spectacle of themselves. But as attention mongers, they did.

From what I understand, and info I have found, Obama tried to demonstrate a willingness to "get along" including releasing political prisoners and allowing United States telecommunications companies to operate on the island and ending government fees on U.S. dollars sent by relatives in the US. And there was talk about the ban on Cuban-American family travel should also be lifted. Plan derailed when Cuban authorities arrested USAID contractor Alan Gross in December 2009, sentencing him to 15 years in prison in 2011. While maintaining limited economic exchanges with Cuba, Obama stated that, without improved human rights and freedoms by Cuba, the embargo remains in the national interest of the United States. As of November 2011, U.S.–Cuba relations remain frozen and Cuba also remains one of the four countries in the world designated as a
