Which name do you like best?

We are TTC baby number two. We already have a boy name picked out, Finnegan Owen (Finn). It's the same initials as my FIL. We want the girl name to be after my MIL, whose middle name was Indy. These are the names we both like, we're just having a hard time choosing one:

Indy Farren
Genevieve Indy - Genna, Genny
Lilith Indy - Lily
Penelope Indy - Penny
Indy Elizabeth - Eliza, Beth
Josephine Indy - Josie

Our last name begins with R and is two syllables. My DD's name is Scarlett Abigail (Abby).

  • 1st- Indy Eliza- Rather than the full name of Elizabeth
    2nd- Farren

With Josephine, I would guess that alot of people would refer to her as Jo.

Have fun. You pick out beautiful names, I love them all.....

  • Just looking at various name pairings with Indy and how they sound, I actually think Indy Elizabeth sounds really good. (Better, to me, than the way the others "fall" or sound.)
But do you want Indy as a first name or a middle? I mean, are you planning to call a girl Indy, or would you be more likely to use the other name? (I see that your first child goes by her middle name.)

If you probably will use her other name, not Indy, then I'd say pick a combo that features a name you love. I do think Indy Elizabeth sounds great together (as far as how the names fit) but if you don't plan to use Indy & don't absolutely love Elizabeth (Liza, Liz, Lizzie, Beth, Libbie, Eliza, Bessie, Sabeth, or one of the other million nicknames for Elizabeth, lol) then choose something else.

As far as the other names, I probably like Josephine & Genevieve best. I also like Penelope but probably would use Penny as a nickname.
    Abby & Penny sound nice!

  • I think if you call her Josie and she calls herself Josie, that people will likely use that name as well. I mean, how many people meeting your older daughter as Abby take it upon themselves to call her Abigail or Gail, or something else? I think it's the same when people are actively using a specific nickname.
You can't always keep people from GIVING a child a nickname (if you like Andrew and never want him called Andy, or if you were trying for "Josephine" not Jo or Josie), but I think most people are likely to go with the nickname you use, rather than opting for their own.

  • Genevieve, we liked this for our daughter, but worried they'd call her Gennie.
She came out looking super Italian, so that name was vetoed lol

  • I like Indy Farren and Lilith Indy. I don't really like the name Penelope much...but IMO it sounds the best with your last name.

  • If you name her Josephine, people will try to call her Jo. A hundred percent guaranteed. Personally, I like Elizabeth or Genevieve.
