Do you let your children play outside without shoes on?

I will let my son take off his shoes at the park if there's sand, but thats it. Recently I've seen a ton of children in our neighborhood playing outside barefoot or in just socks. They ride bikes, scooters, and run up and down the sidewalks and across the parking lot and drive ways. This is completely disgusting to me, not to mention pretty dangerous. Why do parents allow this???

  • I've let my daughter go out on the porch or the lawn in bare feet because there's nothing like the feel of the cool grass and warm cement on your skin. But I'd never let her go further than that, or ride a bike or scooter. That's just asking for trouble. I stepped on a bee as a kid.

  • I don't mind my kid running around barefoot, but I won't allow socks. That's just dumb to me.

  • I don't let my kid run around outside in just socks, cause I am not buying him new socks everytime he destroys a pair. I wouldn't let him ride a bike or a scooter without shoes on because he could get hurt. Other than that I don't see a problem with it.

  • As much as I could, I always made them wear shoes outside. I think they both learned their lesson after being stung by a bee. LOL! Socks, no we never did that either.

  • The only time I don't allow dd to go barefoot is if she could hurt her feet. Like on a bike or scooter, or if there were stickers or gravel or something. I go outside barefoot so I guess I don't really think about too much.

  • Only time mine wear shoes is when they're skateboarding or biking. They all hate shoes just like me

  • Mmm no. Last time I did that, my son stepped on a fire ant nest. It's not a good idea to do where I love. Scorpions and other creepies.

  • ride bikes, scooters - absolutely not!!!
Barefoot in grass or sand, especially in our own yard, is a non-issue.
sidewalks - no way... to may things to get cut on.
I don't find it disgusting, just not too bright!

  • I never let DD take her shoes off at the park, but at home, definitely. I don't have shoes on most of the time when I go outside in nice weather and I sure am not going to expect DD to put shoes on when I don't. We live in the country and have quite a bit of land, so no worries of her stepping on anything too bad (worse would be a bee or dog poo if you aren't paying attention).
