Someone tries to poison a US Congressmen with ricin

..."Washington (CNN) -- An envelope that tested positive for the deadly poison ricin was intercepted Tuesday afternoon at the U.S. Capitol's off-site mail facility in Washington, congressional and law enforcement sources tell CNN. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said he was told the letter was addressed to the office of Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Mississippi.

A laboratory in Maryland confirmed the presence of ricin after initial field tests indicated the poison was present, Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Terrance Gainer said. The letter had a Memphis, Tennessee, postmark and no return address, Gainer wrote in an e-mail to senators and aides. In a statement late Tuesday, the U.S.

Capitol Police said more tests would be conducted at the Army's biomedical research laboratory at Fort Detrick, Maryland. Sen. Claire McCaskill told reporters after a briefing for lawmakers that a suspect has already been identified in the incident, but a knowledgeable source said no one was in custody Tuesday night.

Anyway, they are saying there is no link between this and the bombing in Boston. Whether its true or not, its one hell of a coincidence.  A dose as small as a few grains of table salt can kill an adult human. Thats some deadly stuff!

Between the possible nuke attack from NK, the tragic bombing in Boston, a US Congressmen could have died a horrible death from person/s unknown, WTF is going on??  Things are getting stupid out there....

  • Yeah, now things are stupid and scary. What the hell is this poison stuff? What's it made of? How do people get it? Such a small amount so deadly--that's just scary.

  • Ricin is a toxic poison found in Castor beans.

  • Ricin comes from the castor bean, and is poisonous if inhaled, injected, or ingested, acting as a toxin by blocking our body from making protein. There is no known antidote. I have read that Al-Qaeda makes it cause its easy to get and the CIA claims it could that its their inability to produce botulinum( botulism) or anthrax. Or get access to it.
According to wikipedia, Ricin is several orders of magnitude less toxic than botulinum or tetanus toxin, but the latter are harder to come by. Ricin also "deactivates" more quickly so not as many people would die versus someone using anthrax spores which may remain lethal for decades.
But Ricin is deadly, and a painful way to die. At least with anthrax, there are vaccinations for high risk people, there is also antibiotics that one can take if detected fast enough.

  • Last thing I heard on the way home a few hours ago was that there was a suspect who'd already been writing lawmakers. That came from Sen. Claire McCaskill, but I haven't seen anything since.

  • Quinnmae...Some are speaking about the gun control thing cause he doesn't support it, and threatened a filibuster, but no hard evidence to that. And those who are saying that probably need to be watched a hospitalized with anti-paranoid meds. lol

  • i just read that they intercepted a letter to Obama that tested positive for Ricin too. i wonder if this is all tied to Boston and someone is trying to make a bold statement. maybe trying to show that no matter what laws they make, violence will still happen? sick wackos...
