How can I get my kids (20 months) to stop jumping on the couch/bed?

Is this a phase? I spend half the evening shooing them off the couch and/or bed. I've tried time outs...it doesn't work. Any advice?

  • Just be consistent with time outs. It will work eventually.

  • I can't answer either and I have 7 kids, it is part phase, but it is also just so darn fun! I joined them one day, we had a blast!

  • You need to find something they CAN jump on. Maybe a big piece of foam from a craft store? Then you can redirect them -
No jumping on the sofa. Jump on your mat instead.

And no, I haven't found jumping to be a phase. Mine was trying to jump at 3 months old when I held her up and she hasn't stopped since.

  • I have 20 month old twin girls and I cannot get them to stay off the couch. I wish I had advice for you but I am in the same situation. I just try to keep them off the best I can. Although today one did dive off head first... scared me silly! But she was ok. I just worry alot.
