Was this a mistake?

Yes, safety is an issue, but shutting down a major city sets a dangerous precedent. Businesses and schools are closed, which will have a huge ripple effect beyond today. The next time someone does something like this, the local officials will have a choice, shut down THAT major city, or refuse, and face massive lawsuits and scandal if an innocent bystander is hurt going about their daily routine.

Shutting down an entire city's economy is basically a win for the bombers, far more than loss of life. What happens when next time, they decide to hit Chicago, Atlanta and Houston all on the same day?

  • Good thing is that it's April vacation and the schools were closed anyways.... and Boston is layed out strange b/c it was not a planned city... make sense. I have a lot of friends at work in town right now and they agree with how it's being handled.

  • Anytime something like this happens the bombers win. It sets fear across the world.
Shutting down a major city lets the bombers know they won! I don't think it's the right course of action, but then, I don't have all the facts.

  • It is what it is.

It's an invitation to wreak massive havoc preying on fear and paranoia.

  • The bombers never have a win, no one wins in these kinds of situations...these two seem to be unstable individuals with no agenda other than fear and a suicide wish.....The City did what they deemed appropriate to protect their citizens, next time will be dealt as it happens, this is also letting these kind of people know that is only a matter of time before they get caught or die. No one in this country can get away with this.......

  • It's a catch-22. Yes the bombers can feel like they "won" if everything is shut down. But, at the same time, if things run as usual, and there are more attacks and casualties, then not only are the perps even more victorious but, officials are to blame to for not trying to prevent it.

I don't think that's very high on the list of priorities of people who run around wearing explosives...

  • I did not say this was a priority for them obviously they are sick individuals with no priorities......the 26 year old called an uncle who he had not spoken to in years to make peace right before he was killed, he knew this was coming....

  • i think in the grand scheme of things, the lives lost, the lives forever dramatically changed, locking down a city in order to catch the SOB is small potatoes. id hope they'd do the same thing for me city if there was a bomb/grenade wielding psycho who had nothing to lose terrorizing us. theyre called terrorists b/c they bring terror, no one "wins" in these situations.
