What's the difference?

What's the difference between hamburger meat and ground beef? Or are they the same thing?

  • I will be the one to say there can be a slight difference. Hamburger patties are ground beef, but usually of higher fat content. You can get ground beef with different leanness to it, but the fattier ground chuck is usually what people use for hamburger patties as they tend to grill better. You can make hamburger patties with any type of ground meat though.

*please note I say there CAN be a difference since store bought hamburger patties are usually the higher fat content beef unless noted otherwise.

  • It's ground beef just shaped into a patty. Like ground beef can be shaped into a meatloaf. Same thing just something different made from it. You don't cook much do you?? lol

  • Sorry, we don't call it hamburger. To me that pertains to the sandwich. It's always been ground beef around here.

  • It's ground beef.
Sometimes if you're buying pre-made patties they are seasoned.

  • I think it may be the way things are referred to in different places. It's always called hamburger meat around here. The only time I've heard anybody say "ground beef" is in a recipe.
