Can not believe i am asking a period question....

can antibiotics screw up your cycle

went on antibiotics Sunday ( bronchitis ) yeah!
today started a bit of period, not expecting for a week

went to walk in clinic on a Sunday, so calling the doctor to ask is not going to happen, walk in doctors see you for two minutes, write script a rx and done with you
plus not important enough to make any call to a medical person
much better to ask all the MDs on here

i am not pregnant :) x 100

just wondering side effects of antibiotics, been a long time since i was on

  • Well, antibiotics can decrease BC but, I don't think that they change periods. I think that's an age thing. I'm 39 & I swear that my periods keep coming sooner & sooner.

  • Yes it can and it can mess up birthcontrol as well. (just in case others are curious)
It couldn't hurt to give a call to your doctor.

  • Antibiotics can undoubtedly screw up your cycle. They usually make me miss my period. I didn't know I was pregnant till eleven and a half weeks because when I missd my first period, I chalked it up to the antibiotics I'd been given and didn't even think twice about it. Even when I missed the second one, I thought it might still be from the antibiotics. I also got pregnant once--later miscarried--because I'd taken antibiotics that rendered my progesterone birth control pills ineffective.

  • Oh, it could also be an age thing. I'm 42, and my cycle has shortened noticeably in the last few years. I didn't even think of it till 3libras said it.
