Egg allergy question

Egg allergies run in dh's side of the family. Fil couldn't even touch them as a kid and he still swells up today unless it's a baked good. One of my nieces (sil's youngest) has a bad egg allergy as well. DS doesn't have an egg allergy. I introduced DD, 10 months old, to egg yolk a couple weeks ago and she had no reaction. So, since the yolk is in the clear, is it ok to introduce the whole egg to her? I'm making scrambled eggs.

  • This is how I feel about alergies. At least food ones. Let the kid/s try the food. If they are alergic, you will find out quickly. Make sure you can get to the ER.

  • You seem to really want a yes, so yes.

Personally, if there were egg allergies in my family, particularly severe ones, I would have been consulting with my pediatrician and holding off to avoid potential reactions. But that's just me.

  • If there is a family allergy then I would wait until she is two to try eggs, nuts etc. That may be why your FIL has an egg allergy. It happens when certain foods are introduced too early.

  • You get allergies from your body building up a resistance to the food (you build up antihistamines). So she may have a reaction after eating it the second or third time.

  • What did your pediatrician say?
They usueally tell you which foods to introduce first and which to hold off on until last.

  • lol no I don't "want" a yes. I'm just saying it like it is! She has had the yolk a few times, no reaction. I've read now most say a whole egg before 12 months is safe. So I'm not sure. I guess I will contact my pediatrician come Monday!!
