Why are proselytizers obsessed with atheists?

There are thousands of religions out there that believe differently, and added bonus, most of them include people who already believe in the existence of at least one deity. (for the sake of discussion, let's not confuse it with all the deity-free atheistic religions with other sources of power)

If people are so convinced they have the one and only truth, to the point they feel a duty to foist it on the rest of the world, why don't they ever spend much time trying to explain why other religions or denoms are wrong and theirs is right? If it's so "true", shouldn't it be even easier to explain why another religion is wrong when there's a starting point for comparison?

  • It ties back to the mentality of "Others may be wrong but at least they believe in 'something', Atheists believe in 'nothing' so they must be 'lost' and in need of 'saving'!"

  • "Others may be wrong but at least they believe in 'something', Atheists believe in 'nothing' so they must be 'lost' and in need of 'saving'!"

But then they turn around and say things like that one the other day - where some were insisting anything not Christian (supernatural/witchcraft/Voodoo/etc) is the work of Satan. If everyone else is in such grave danger by practicing the "wrong" religion, why no effort to save them, too?

  • They're obsessed with Atheists because they feel they're right, 100% in their religion.
They don't have the sense or knowledge to convince an Atheist why another religion is wrong. Plus, it isn't their place to do so.

That's not what I'm asking. I want to know why they never spend any time trying to convert non-atheists.

Because every religion that isn't there own is considered "atheist" by them.

  • Why would they convert a non-atheist?

My understanding from reading most of the answers here is, as long as you believe in SOMETHING, albeit, God, Satan, voodoo, etc. that's good enough, it's something.
They just can't seem to grasp the fact that atheist believe in nothing...

  • Speaking as a believer in God, i never think of what religion someone else is, or if theyre athiest. I live my beliefs. If someone wants to know about them, i tell them. My behavior nor my answer to any question doesnt change according to another' s belief sysyem.

  • I can think of two reasons:
    1. In their mind, there is no "other". There is either Christian or atheist. Most that proselytize know squat about other religions.
    2. Because they aren't knowledgeable about other religions, they can't argue with them. With atheists, they at the very least know we don't believe a god exists, to which they can say "Yes he does. The bible says so". <-- And that is their argument. Period.
