Girls and boys, come out to play,
    The moon doth shine as bright as day;
Leave your supper, and leave your sleep,
And come with your playfellows into the street.
Come with a whoop, come with a call,
Come with a good will or not at all.
Up the ladder and down the wall,
A half-penny roll will serve us all.
You find milk, and I’ll find flour,
And we’ll have a pudding in half an hour.

  • There once was a girl from Nantuckit . ..

    Oh, wait.

    Scratch that.

Probably Little Miss Muffet, which is weird because I hate spiders. Maybe it's because I can identify with her being scared away.

  • There was a crooked man, and he went a crooked mile,
And found a crooked sixpence against a crooked stile,
He bought a crooked cat, which caught a crooked mouse,
And they all lived together in a little crooked house.

  • Doodle doodle doo,
    The princess lost her shoe.
    Her Highness Hopped,
    The fiddler stopped,
    Not knowing what to do.

I used to sing that all the time to my daughter when I was putting on her shoes. We had a great Mother Goose CD from Wee Sing, with a lot of the less common rhymes on it, all set to music . Also:

Diddle diddle dumpling, my son John
Went to bed with his stockings on,
One shoe off and one shoe On,
Diddle diddle dumpling, my son John.

You can just imagine a mama writing that after she foun her kid sprawled out on the living room rug, half dressed and sound asleep.
