4 Bumps

She's pumping in an attempt to lose weight but throwing the milk out??

A friend of mine just had a baby and she is formula feeding the baby but pumping to "lose calories" and then just pouring the milk down the drain. This is very strange to me....

If she's already producing the milk, shouldn't she just go ahead and feed her baby that milk?

Anyone else bothered by this?

  • Pretty weird. It won't last long anyway, if she's not nursing at all. Her body will produce less and less milk.

  • Yeah, that's what I thought but she's taking fenugreek now too lol I'm thinking she's going a little nutty...

  • That's insane. She should give her baby that milk

  • Yeah ok, but I have news for her.. you don't lose calories by pumping. You won't lose weight any doing this. Also she is throwing money down the drain. Breast milk is free and by far better for baby. Paying for formula is pretty stupid if she's already producing.

  • Maybe what she is taking isn't good for the baby

  • She won't lose weight that way. Nine months on, nine months off. If she doesn't want to breastfeed, then she needs to simply let it all go. Giving your body the "make milk" signal gives it a reason to hold excess weight.

Tell her her body is PERMANENTLY changed anyway and unless she wants to pay through the nose for a personal trainer, she can wave bye bye to the woman she was. V2.0 was born along with baby!

  • That is crazy if she doesn't want it for her baby she should at least donate it, what a waste!

  • Maybe she isn't eating properly because of dieting, or she doesn't want to nurse so she can drink?

Or maybe she doesn't want the baby too attached so she can easily leave the baby and go out?

I don't know, it seems sad and kind of selfish. I don't think everyone has to breastfeed, but if you're going to pump the milk anyway then it seems kind of twisted.

  • As long as the baby is getting Formula who cares what she does. It's her body. The child isn't in any danger.

  • Maybe she has a personal health issue that prevents her from giving the milk to the baby for health reasons?
