How can my friend talk with her 7 yr old son about inappropriate touching?

My friend called and asked me advice because her 7 yr old was caught at school with his hand in his pants grabbing himself. She had also recently found him in his room with a doll in his pants rubbing it back and forth. She asked her husband ( sons stepdad) to go talk to him when she found him in his room the first time, but all he did was tell him if he couldnt talk about it he could just stay in his room. Way to go dad....NOT! She thought that since I have an older son I could help, but I have yet to encounter this with him. Please help!!!!!! How should she go about talking to him?

  • First, he needs to know this is normal and his body is supposed to feel this way. There is nothing shameful about it.
There are lots of books your friend can get him. I'd suggest she get one, sit down with him and flat out tell him that she knows these things can be embarassing to talk about BUT she will always help him find the answer. Then hand him the book and tell him this is a good place to start. If he has questions after he reads it, she will help him get the answers.
