Engagement break up?

Very expencive engagement ring. She broke up with him. Should she give the engagement ring back?

I say. She should give it back.  If he would have broke up with her, she could keep it.

  • Technically it's a gift. But morally, it should be returned. Esp. if it's a family heirloom. It gave me great satisfaction to throw the ring at the cheating bum I was engaged to years ago. It probably wouldn't have been worth much at the pawn shop anyways :p

  • Yes. The ring is a promise of marriage. The day they marry it's hers. If she calls it off, he gets it back.

Most courts side with him on this one unless he ends the engagement.

  • Yes. No matter who broke up, if they did not marry then the ring should be returned.

  • I would give it back. I gave my wedding ring back to my ex after we divorced because it had belonged to his mother, who was deceased, and it was meaningful to him. Whether she could be forced legally to give it back is another story--I'd say probably not.

  • She broke it off, she should give it back. If he cheated on her and she broke it off she should keep it.
