Hardwood floors - HELP!

We pulled up the rugs in our house. There are hardwood floors underneath. The hardwood floors are in worse condition than we thought.

Any advice on what to do? We can't afford to have them refinished professionally right now?

Thanks!

  • Start with a nice cleaning. Vinegar/water (1/2 and 1/2) can make a huge difference in how they look. Expect to have to do this several times until you get all the grunge stripped off

  • Oh, white vinegar only :) Also, as you move forward, don't use anything but a vinegar rinse on them to clean. That's all you should use, based on advice I got from the Amish man who installed mine in MN. They weren't finished and were gorgeous

  • Rent a floor sander, then stain, and varnish.
