Breast milk

How long is breastmilk good for in the freezer? I have some from 10-27-08 and 11-01-08. It was frozen immediately after being pumped, is it still good?

  • i heard 12months. but i seriously cant imagine that it will still be good after 12 months.

so i would go with what the first said. 6months. if even that long.

  • Freezer compartment of a refrigerator 5°F or -15°C 2 weeks
Freezer compartment of refrigerator with separate doors 0°F or -18°C 3–6 months
Chest or upright deep freezer -4°F or -20°C 6–12 months

I got this from the Centers for disease control and prevention

  • Depends on the freezer type. I keep mine in the deep freeze and have been using stuff I pumped in September. It looks and smells fine. I was told it was good for a year.

  • average freezer if in the back is good for up to ten months.. i stopped nursing.. well, actually my milk ran out.. but when my son had his first cold, i thawed out one of the bags and gave it to him, and that was pumped back in sept. and he is now 7 months old, and no more cold
