Every year there seems to be a rise in ADD, ADHD, and Austism.. what is the cause?

Lets think outside the box now. Since we didn't hear of this happening as frequently 100 years ago. What are your thoughts? I'm going with the poison and garbage in our daily foods, drinks, the fluoridated water, etc. has a lot to do with it.

  • Diagnosis is the mainly the problem......and pharmaceutical companies that provide a so call solution.......people dealt with this type of behavior years ago without the pharmaceuticals or diagnosis....

  • The feel the main reasons are: increased population (hence a higher amount) & knowledge about the disorders. Children just used to be referred to as "hyper active", or "slow" or "socially awkward" in the past.

But, there does seem to be some kind of outside trigger that's developed. Not something that causes Autism but, sets it in motion (for those who already are pre-disposed) somehow.

  • Some of it is poor parenting parents who see something wrong with their kids and instead of parenting, they push for diagnosis. Unfortunately it kind of diminishes it for those who do truly need the diagnosis.

It is also all of the crap in our food system. It's the GMO veggies with the pesticides directly in their DNA - can't wash those off and we eat them! All of the hormones and additives in our food cannot be helping either. I did see an article about the rise of GMO food being related to the rise of ADD, ADHD and Autism. I'll have to think about where I saw it. May have been

  • I was raised in the 70's. I am willing to bet those things were always there, we just didn't have the name or diagnosis for them. We had some very difficult children back then... some that were even viewed as "retarded"....

  • All that's changed in the label. 100 years ago they were called "touched", and often institutionalized or lived a short, neglected life at home. Now the pendulum has swung to the other extreme - we label and medicate normal behavior and call it autism or ADD when it's really just a kid who needs an hour a day to run around and be creative.

  • We know a lot more now about ADHD and Autism and it's a lot easier to recognize and diagnose. I don't believe there has been a rise in actual people (aside from our population has gotten larger), just a rise in actually knowing more about these conditions and therefore diagnosis and treatment. It's always existed, we are now more educated today.

  • even best scientists do not know how all the thousands of chemicals we have in our daily lives affect the human body
let alone how these chemicals react when together

better dx- yes- but this alone can not account for the huge increase
i am placing my bet on the huge increase in the amount of chemicals in our daily life that DO get into the human body
