Promise rings

What are your views on promise rings? Do you think if you have known someone for years, dated a year, now have a 3 week old baby be given a "promise?

  • I imagine it means something specifically to the giver and the receiver and if I am neither then it's none of my business.

  • I always thought of a promise ring for those who planned to get married but just didn't have the funds yet and it was usually just a trinket ring. Personally I'd say ante up or move on.
