Who composts indoors?

What do you use as your container? I am thinking of re-purposing an old plastic coffee container, but wondering if it might not be big enough.

  • They make countertop composters that you can fill and then take to the outside compost pile.  I think the lids have a filter on them.  Some of them are kind of cute.

  • my mom puts it in a halved milk jug and my dad then takes it down to his garden and I guess uses it as fertilizer.

  • A plastic coffee container won't hold much, so if you can take it out to where you want to put it regularly it might be okay. But you may be better off finding something larger like a small tote with a tight-fitting lid or a wide-mouthed plastic gallon jar with a snug screw-on cap.

  • Compost stinks after a while. Why would you do it indoors?
