Will the pharmacist know?

in february i went to the dentist and got prescribed antibiotics- which i never ended up taking but did get filled. insurance issues happened and i wasnt able to get the tooth pulled and the pain went away. now im having pain again so i went to the dentist, insurance is fine now, but having problems finding an oral surgeon since a dentist wont pull it. the earliest appt is not til the 19th. they prescribed me more antibiotics, but it was for a weaker strength and less frequently. i looked in my cupboard and what i was prescribed in february was the SAME antibiotic just a higher strength, so i took that. i just finished it yesterday and im feeling pain again :( right where i was last time- in the jaw. and the same feeling like its infected. its manageable so far but i know its going to increase. anyway, idk if its too soon to get the other script filled (for the same antibiotic just weaker) or if i should get it filled and take it since obviously the previous round didn't wipe out the infection. will a pharmacist know the answer to that? or do i need to call a dentist? doctor? idk.

  • Ask the oral surgeon, b/c the pharmacist might not be able to give that advice.

  • You might need a different antibiotic to knock out the infection. Feel better fast!

  • Yeah they will know but may not legally be able to answer that. Call the doc/dentist that prescribed the drug or who is treating this issue. Sorry your in pain!

^^^ Yes- explain to them that you had a previous script for the same meds, but higher strength & took that 1st. Since it's not working, you want something else that will help you. GL

  • been there! if the first round of a stronger antibiotic didn't help, I doubt the lower dose will unless they call in a steroid like prednisone to go with it b/c the steroid will help take out the swelling and inflammation while the antibiotic takes out the gross stuff. GL I hope you get some relief.
