Keeping a toddler busy

hi everyone, it seems like forever since I've logged back on cafemom. hope everyone's doing good :)
well i've been busy with my new part-time job which is work-from-home. so i send my almost 3 year old to pre-school/daycare 3 days a week so i can get atleast some work done. 2 days of the week he's home (gosh day cares are soooo expensive!). so i need 4 hours each day where i need to occupy him so i can tackle all my work phone calls and paperwork. i have made a craft bucket (crayons, markers, playdough, finger paints, regular paints, stickers etc), bought a sand/water table which is out on the patio where i can keep an eye on him, some new toys which he can play with just for a little while so he doesn't get bored and books (he can't read on his own for more than 20 mins, he gets bored quickly, lol)
i end up turning on disney jr. for him which i really hate doing. please give me more ideas which will occupy him and keep me from turning on the tv when i'm in the middle of an important phone call and he starts brawling or nagging just because he's bored...

  • Go for the train table!! I store all my Sons big trucks & firetrucks underneath too! Then when he gets bored with the trains he puts his matchbox cars on the tracks or little plastic dinosaurs & other animals & makes a zoo!

  • I recently got my kiddo a free-standing bubble machine that blows out zillions of bubbles so she can chase them. It takes a lot of soap solution to keep it going, but she loves it. Maybe sidewalk chalk, or one of those Hot Wheels sets that you stick on the wall would be good.

  • Since summer is going on, you could try checking with your neighbors to see if anyone has an older child who'd be interested in being a mom's helper. You wouldn't have to pay a babysitting rate since you'll be there.

  • So I guess he doesn't nap anymore? That's when I get things done or not...LOL! I'd get movies for him like Cars & Cars 2, Over the Hedge etc. Nothing wrong with a little down time on TV! How about a ball pit toy? Put it out on the grass & work outside. My Son loves his train table. It came with tracks & trains.

  • Get him some toys that are ONLY for the times mommy is working.
He doesn't get them at any other time, and he only gets them if he was good and let you work peacefully the day before.
