Working out while pregnant yay or nay?

I'm only 3 weeks pregnant so I'm sure working out wouldnt be a problem, but i've had 2 miscarriages and am terrified of losing this one. My DH and I have been trying for a couple of years. So any advice on working out would be great!

  • If you worked out regularly before pregnancy, it should be ok. Maybe slow down just a bit.

  • I would talk to your doctor because of your previous history. For healthy pregnancies, light workouts are usually not a problem.

  • If you already have a routine, YES. Based on having had two miscarriages already and my previous experience, NO. My high risk OB made me stop going to the gym and limited even low impact exercise until after I passed twelve weeks. You really don't want to over -exert yourself. Also just throwing it out there get your progesterone levels checked. Low progesterone can cause a miscarriage and it's easily supplemented by weekly injections. If your levels are fine that's great.

  • Good luck. Check with your doctor about having your progesterone levels measured and supplemented if necessary. Recurrent miscarriage is often caused by low progesterone levels in the early weeks of pregnancy.

  • Considering your history I would definitely ask your dr. In typical pregnancies working out is fine, but they may want you to take it easy at least through the first trimester (you don't mention at what stage you lost the first two).

  • I still rode my horse until 5 months pregnant (mind you I know what Im doing and would never have ridden if I didnt trust my skills or my horse). Some women still jog when they are pregnant. We are pregnant, not sick! Exercise is good. And you can still go for walks and stuff after 6 or 7 months. Trust yourself. You're still capable if not a little wobbly.
