Which is her permanent mailing address?

My stepdaughter is filling out a form for her college. She wants to know which would be consideredher permanent mailing address. Would it be at her mom's house, or her apartment in the college town? How would we find out?

  • I would say her mom's house. As long as her mom has a permanent living situation. They really want it for bills and post graduation stuff. Since most college kids tend to move around, dorms and apartments... they ask for a more permanent address.

  • In some cases if she's out on her own it will help her get more financial aid.

  • What address is on her drivers license? That's what I would go with. And it's likely her mom's

  • Will she be staying in this apartment year round or just for school? If year round it is the apartment. If it is just during school her mother's house.

  • Hmmmm, is she planning on staying in the college town after she graduates? Or is she going to go back to her mom's?
That is odd that her apartment address is on her license but she's registered to vote at her mom's.

Upon further review, I think SleepingBeautee is absolutely correct on this one. She should put her mom's address down as the permanent address. Even if she doesn't move back there, her mom will still be there and can tell her there is mail rather than it being returned in the mail.

  • I will say that when I registered for college I put my apartment address, not my parents address. But I had been living on my own for four years and was married, and had absolutely no intention of ever moving back home.

  • Unless is really established where she is living and will likely live there after graduation, then she should put her mom's address.

  • FYI
if her college town is in a different state than her moms address she should establish "permanent address" in the college town

    her fees will be lower
