Question about an 11 year old boy

My son is 11 and is going into 6th grade this year--the issue is he thinks he can wear his shirts 2 or 3 days in a row and doesn't have to shower or put deodorant on every day. How do I get it through to him that he needs to do this on a daily basis because he is going through puberty and is stinky and needs a shower and deodorant every day, especially after playing outside or riding his bike??!! Any advice is appreciated

  • Yeah keep reminding him of the importance of hygiene but he will discover girls and then hygiene will no longer be an issue....

  • I haven't ever met a boy who DIDN'T go through this stage lol. Usually it doesn't last long, but you could ground him from things if he doesn't shower.

I'd stand there in the bathroom while he showered and threaten to wash him myself if he didn't do it right

  • I would do ^^ that. My oldest went thru this and I would threaten to wash him myself, which usually did the trick.

  • Every boy goes through that stage. Tell him girls don't like stinky boys

  • My son will be 11 on Saturday. Every day I tell both kids to go shower (yes, now). When he comes out, I just also ask him "Did you remember deodorant?" He's never tried to put on dirty clothes though.
