What do you buy when you have extra cash to spend?

okay so you get a gift card, on your birthday or something. and that month the bills are paid and grocery shopping is done. i know these are never ending expenses but you have $50 to spend on yourself. would you:
1) buy clothes/accessories for yourself
2) get pampered i.e. mani/pani or facial
3) get a decorative item for your home e.g. new lamp/wall art/a new cake stand etc.

I go with number 3. Always !! often my husband is generous and wants me to spend on myself, but I always end up buying something pretty for the house. what do you do?

  • I put it in savings so I have it when I need it instead of wondering what stupid shit I spent it on. (Obviously I've learned this through experience)

  • Usually I buy my kids something, or just save it for emergencies. If I had to spend it on myself i would go with 1 right now but usually 3.

  • I stash it away. That way, the next time we need something like diapers or milk or gas, etc, and dh thinks were broke, I get to save the day.

    Its happened before...

  • Save it for a "rainy day". Who knows when something might happen and we end up short at some point. The savings comes in very handy.

  • #2. I always hold off way to long to get a haircut. To be that is pampering. I've waited 6 months between cuts simply because I didn't have the money to go.

  • #4 Pay extra on the bills/mortgage/etc. To get out from under debt faster and thus lowering the amount going out in monthly bills and have more money in the long run.
