My 2 1/2 year old won't get off the bottle... Help!?

My son who is 2/1/2 has to have his "ba" (as he calls it). He will only have a couple during the day but they are necessary at nap time and at night when he goes to bed. Lately he has had bad allergies and has so much congestion but insists on having his bottle, i've even tried just putting ice water in it and he flips out! The last 3 nights he has woke up throwing up from it because we all know how awful milk and congestion are together...ugghhh :( Help...what do I do??

  • Cold turkey. It's the only way, this late in the game. My daughter fought tooth and nail against it, but she figured it out in the end.

  • Now is the time to end the bottle, then. It will be super hard, but we went through a similar thing and the only way we succeeded was to let a bottle get smelly and let her decide to throw them out. She really was unhappy for about a week, but she made it through.

  • This should have been done at least a year ago if not almost a year and a half ago. Now, it will be harder to do but you will have to be consistent. Does he use a slippy cup at all? If so, just go ahead and toss out the bottles and offer him water at night. With him having milk at night and at nap times, that milk is sitting on his teeth and can cause tooth decay. If he has not been introduced to the sippy cup yet, go ahead and do it and start changing over to that as soon as possible.
