What would you do if you posted an ad for a part-time babysitter and a teenage boy applied?

This is awkward, right? I mean I don't want to be/sound sexist but....I'm not sure how to respond!

  • get to know him, see if he has any experience. Some males are better with kids then females.

  • I would rather a Male to babysit my Son. They would probably have a great time. Many Camp Counselor's are male teenagers. For my Daughter I would rather a Female babysitter.

  • I would interview him like anyone else. I always liked male sitters for my boys when they were younger. They can be great role models if they are mature.

  • Interview him and check his references. If he's the best person for the job, he gets it.

  • For me since I just have a son, a male would work for him. I would make sure its a legit response, than interview and run background/reference checks.

  • Why? Maybe he has a crap load of siblings and has a ton of experience? When my girls were little my "boy" cousins babysat because they had been around little kids forever. We have boy daycare teachers and teachers?

If you don't feel comfortable, don't call him. However, it's not unusual, no.

  • it's different, but why shouldn't a boy be able to babysit?

Answer by charlotsomtimes at 12:17 PM on Jun. 24, 2013

  • Maybe he's allergic to cutting grass & doesn't want to do restaurant work. So this is just another way for him to earn money. Some male teens are good with kids. Give him an interview & see what you think.

  • I would say that he may be a boy, but he could be really good I would give him a chance, by interviewing him and checking his references.
