What's the best way to shred chicken?

It's been cooked in the crockpot all day so it's falling apart. I'm making chicken croquettes, and it says to shred the chicken. Should I just pull it apart with forks? I don't have a food processor, but I do have a blender. Could I chop it in the blender?

  • The easiest way is just to use two forks. Or, my grandma always showed me, just wash your hands and use your fingers if the chicken is cool enough to handle. You could use a blender, but you'll get more of a pulpy texture than the long thin shreds you'll have if you use forks or fingers.

  • If it's falling off the bone I'd just pull it apart with forks, maybe cut it if the pieces get too big.

  • But I'm nowhere close to a gourmet chef, so I could be very wrong on that one.

  • Disclaimer--I'm no gourmet chef, either. I've just made a lot of enchiladas, and so shredded my weight in chicken for those.

  • That's what I thought- the blender might make it liquefy. Thanks ladies!
