Gnats in my bathroom sink!

These tiny nasty little bugs are coming up from the drain in my bathroom sink. This has never happened before. Does anybody know why they're turning up, and what I can do about them? I dumped some bleach down the drain, but I don't want to keep doing that.

  • This is my solution
Pour at least a gallon of boiling water down the drain and let it sit for another hour (clear out any bleach)

Put 1 1/2 cup or so of baking soda in the drain go slow to try and get it down as far as it will go, add more if you don't see any.
Pour about 2 cups of vinegar slowly down the drain and let it percolate. You can heat the vinegar if you like but I don't.
Then after the bubbling stops and a bout 10 minutes pour down a gallon of boiling water.
I actually do this about once a month to every 6 weeks as a preventative.

  • After a while I would opt for some boiling water as well.

  • Bleach won't help, so don't bother doing that again.

Baking soda and boiling water will probably clear out whatever it is they're thriving on down there...
