Shameless bragging

Here's what DS10 made for dinner last night.  Found him a really basic sauce recipe to start with.  Figure he can get fancier next time.

What have you cooked with your kids lately?

  • First off, i love that you're teaching your SON to cook. More men should know how to cook, atleast the basics. second- it looks delicious! he looks well on his way to being an excellent cook if he can put that together at 10 years old. lastly, i typically just bake with my kids, they haven't shown an interest in cooking yet but they sure do love to help mix and decorate desserts.

  • My kids aren't quite ready to produce a dinner. But they "helped" me bake a cake a few days ago (ie stirred batter).

That's where we started with him. He's always wanted to help so we had him measure or stir. He got it in his head that he wanted to make me dinner for Mother's Day, so he made tuna salad and a cake. Then he decided since I got a cake, DH should too on Father's Day. Since then he's had the bug, so we've been teaching him a new thing every few days.

  • Good job! I taught my boys to cook as well and you know where one of them graduated from because of my teaching them, lol

    Looks very tasty!

  • My son (my almost 19 aspie) made boxed mac and cheese for his lunch, all by himself, without me even asking him to. I know this sounds like so what, but actually it's a REALLY big deal. It's the first time he has ever cooked something on his own without me nagging him to do it.

  • That looks so delicious! He did a great job.

My kids cook on the nights I work. Tonight they're having spaghetti with meat sauce. The sauce was premade by me (I always save the extra sauce when I make it), so all they have to do is heat up some hamburger and add the sauce, but still... they're cooking. My oldest makes the best pasta and an amazing risotto, she also makes some great chicken dishes.

  • That's awesome. My kids don't have much interest in the kitchen (neither do I!) and my husband does most of the cooking. They usually just help him stir mixes or put toppings on stuff.
