I was pumping and then I noticed I freaked out and stopped. I push down on my breast and I just saw milk my nipples are cracked can I still cobtinue to breastfeed or will the blood hurt my baby. He is 3 days old and he has jaundice can thisnmake it worse :( I don't want hurt him but I also don't want to stop brwastfeeding. Help???

  • It is fine to continue to breast feed w/ cracked nipples. Just uncomfortable. Do you have any Lanolin to help protect and heal?

  • This happens as your nipples get used to nursing. Part of the process.
    You should probably consult your lactation specialist.

  • you can rub milk on them and go braless (topless if possible)

  • Lanolin was a godsend for me. Get just the plain pure stuff for nursing, though, with nothing added.

  • the hospital I went to for having both my boys said to use olive oil for cracked or chapped nipples, my doc also said this. blood wont hurt baby. for the jaundice, take him outside for at least 15 min a day and u can give him vitamin d drops (ask your doc 1st of course)

  • Thank you he actually has been prescribes vitamins but he spits them up :( can I just put them on my breast milk when I pump
