Have you ever been to an Underground Restaurant?

Would you go to one?

I've been nvited to one, but I'm concerned about food safety issues.

  • What, like the Blue Bayou at Disney? It's underground.

  • Yes, we have several Underground Resturants. One in particular is called Hobo' s Restaurant.
Underground Resturants have to pass the same safety/food inspections as any restaurant. Go and enjoy the history and food. Lots of fun!

  • What is an underground restaurant?

  • Sorry for not being clearer. Here is the best definition to explain it.

An underground restaurant, sometimes known as a supper club or closed door restaurant, is an eating establishment operated out of someone's home, generally (though not invariably) bypassing local zoning and health-code regulations. They are, in effect, paying dinner parties. They are usually advertised by word of mouth or guerilla advertising, often on Facebook, and may require references to make a reservation.
Underground restaurants are popular in Latin America. Depending on local licensing laws, they may or may not be illegal; either way, they've been built into the culture for decades, and often have higher standards.

    Sorry for the confusion.

  • Oh Panda, we actually HAVE underground restaurants, lol

I've never heard of what you're talking about.

  • I'd give it a try. It sounds like fun. Honestly, I doubt if the risk of food poisoning would be much higher than at regular restaurants, after some of the awful things you see in the media that go on.

  • Rotfl! Apparently these things aren't knew, but a well kept secret.

Ya'll probably thought I'd let my mind or a troll hacked me. Lol!

This one in particular requires you to know someone with the phone number and password to get a reservation. My foodie friend has it all set up for us to go. I'm a nervous nelly about food safety. Guess I can go try it.

  • Try it and let us know! How much does it cost?

Answer by PMSMom10 at 4:59 PM on Jul. 7, 2013

  • I sure will let you know! This one is 75 bucks per person for a 5 course meal that includes wine pairings. Its a day gift from my best friend.
