  • Wow! The biggest baby I've personally known was an 11 pound newborn. Born naturally (midwife-attended homebirth.) I think he went to 42 weeks, too.

You mentioned that your husband (a twin) was 7 lbs at birth and asked if that is big for a twin. I read in the news about twins who were 12 pounds (each!) a couple of years ago. I remember both parents were large people, in the sense of being very tall with solid frames. That unusually big!!

People usually assume "twins are smaller" (and "twins are born early") but that doesn't have to be true. I was part of a twin birth/parenting community when I was pregnant with my twins, and the mamas there routinely went to term & had high birth weights. They paid attention to prenatal protein recommendations of Dr. Luke.
Mine were average sized newborns (one was 7 lbs & one was 8 lbs.) They looked small to me but they really were average newborns, and in general considered big "for twins."

  • Wowzas! He's a big boy! My daughter was big, but not as big as your little guy. She was 9lbs, 6oz and when my mom came in to see her for the first time she said "that's not a newborn, that's a 3 month old".
