If anti-gay marriage activists are afraid the government will force their church to perform gay marriage

Why then do they NOT protest the Indiana law making it illegal for churches to voluntarily perform gay marriages?

Is it only ok for the government to make laws over what churches do when the government is taking your side?

  • No it is not.
I hope this is overruled. The government does not belong in churches.
A church sanctifies the marriage but the government is the only one who can issue the license.
If the church is allowed to oversee the officiating (signing and filing) for one couple then it is legal for them to officiate over any union that would be considered a marriage by the government.

It needs to be challenged first. Apparently it's been on the books since 97, tacked on as an amendment to something else, and nobody noticed until they started going digital and indexing everything online.

  • It's not okay for government to make laws about what churches can and can't do, no matter what side the laws take.
