Cheese?

OK, so I was reading something that said small bits of cheese (before a year old) is something babies can have....

Um, I was under the impression that ANY dairy is a no-no before the age of 1? Or is it just plain cow's milk that is the no-no?

  • Just plain cows milk. Cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese, etc is all fine. They even make yogurt specifically for babies (although plain unflavored yogurt is best)

  • I gave cheese and yogurt. It's a great first food because they don't choke on it.

  • With a family history of milk allergies I would wait until 18 month...however, If she is formula fed and using a milk based formula and has not had a reaction I would not worry about it. Plain old cows milk can be rough on a small belly but the major concern is that it is not nutritionally sound for an infant who's primary nutrition should still be formula/breast milk.

  • Alright, thx ladies. I'm also a little timid by introducing any dairy because she has an older sis with allergies to milk, and when she was a lot smaller, if I drank milk, she would have a reaction.

Guess we'll never know unless we try it!

  • Mine won't eat the pureed baby food either, Staci, which is why I need some finger food options....and stuff she can mush with her gums because...WE STILL HAS NO TEEFS!
