  • Notice there are NO plastic bags!

And that scanner is pretty high tech. The only store that had scanning where I grew up was Sears, and theirs was a little scan-gun they pointed at labels by hand.

  • The giant signs in the window, written with giant markers on butcher paper, changed each week with the sales. None of the stores around here have windows open like that anymore, they have a row of machines in front of them, or they have short windows on the top 3rd of the wall and brick below it.

  • Ours was a lot smaller than the ones today. It was "Food Town"! I remember they had a points thing & my Mom got an entire set of kitchen dishes! Then when she completed the set, I got a HUGE digital watch! LOL! I remember the cereal isle. That was like the candy isle of today. It was nothing but sweet cereals & every one had a toy inside. So we would look at the box to find which toy we wanted that week.

  • Groovy.
One of my first grocery store memories was blood and tongue loaf. I cried.

  • OMG one of the stores in my hometown STILL looks like this!!!

I wasn't around in the 70's so sadly the People of Walmart have always been my sad sad memories of the grocery store.

  • When the first grocery store in the little town where I grew up got the moving conveyor belt thingy at the checkout counter, it was a big deal. We'd beg our parents to take us to that store just because the food would move all by itself.
