  • I think that "made in His image" reflects, not complete perfection, but the ability of mankind to be like Him in *nature.* We are human : HUMANE, and all that entails - we are INNATELY loving, compassionate, altruistic. It is a part of our being, part of what being self-aware creatures has done to us, where we HAVE to consider our relationships to each other and the world around us. Those are traits we share with the Divine, ways that we can reflect and emulate Divinity. They represent the ideal, the full potential of mankind, and whether Divinity is metaphor or literal, that is how we grow closer to it. For example, Christ WAS these traits, he embodied and personified them - which is why he is considered God "incarnate" - he was a living example of what we consider to be Divine, and what we can aspire to, if we commit to the cultivation of spirit.

  • What Bandgeek said. I believe we are all conceived an born with a bit of the Creator in us, in that we have the capacity to be intelligent, imaginative and loving like God. Some people live up to their potential, some don't.

  • "Some people live up to their potential, some don't."

Haha, yup. I think that potential, that "innate-ness," is always there, but I think that you can deepen those qualities or damper them, so to speak

  • Oh, and that's why we need to be careful about our religious exploration, because not all religious practice or teaching helps us to tap into that potential. Some teachings or ways of faith actually lead us away from them by teaching superiority or hardening our hearts, all that. So just being religious or "devout" doesn't necessarily mean that one's faith is bringing out of them the "fruits" of the spirit that bloom from those seeds of potential or that spark of Divinity, so to speak, within us. ;)
