Home alone at age seven?

My neighbor boy just came to see if my kids can play. He then told me that he was lonely and home alone. The kid is seven. I asked how long he has been home alone and he said a long time, that if he couldn't play at our house that he was going to go to his grandma's. That he had already locked his house up and wanted to come in. As I was talking to him I saw his parents drive up. He saw them and ran home.

What justification is there to leave a seven year old home alone...EVER?

  • None! That isn't even LEGAL in most states. Who the fuck leaves a kid that young home alone?!

  • My heart is breaking for that child :( He's probably in trouble for leaving the house. Who does that to a 7 year old?

  • I don't even let our 9, and 10 yr old boys out in the pool in the backyard alone.... Ugh, I just don't understand some people. IMO, there's no excuse for leaving a little innocent child alone anywhere.
