Question about credit

I filed for bankruptcy last July. I have just gotten an inheritance and have more than half to pay on this house I have been looking at. Will it be a factor that I have a big down payment or will I still not be able to get it because of my bankruptcy? I have also been working on bringing my credit score back up since my bankruptcy.

  • Bankruptcy stays with you for 7 years I think. Talk to a loan person about getting a Mortgage.  Best way to do it.

  • Are you going through a Realtor? Call & ask them. Maybe call the Bank too.

  • A large down payment will help you. We bought our home within a year of hubby bankruptcy from his divorce.

  • Having a big down payment will work in your favor, but the bankruptcy will still play a role, too. It'll depend on what else you have going for you - if you don't have a whole lot of open debt, and you have a decent income, those things will help you, too.

  • I don't have any other debt. All I have is regular monthly bills, like water and utlilitiest

  • Talk to a mortgage broker. He or she may know even more than a realtor about getting you set up.
