If it's about to storm...

and your child is at the next door neighbor's house, would you go get them?

i know this is a weird question. i can hear thunder (extremely loud thunder) and the sky is turning black so we're about to get it. she just went over there about 15 minutes ago so i'd hate to crash the playdate.

obviously if she were at a friend's that i had to drive to i would leave it alone. but since she is right next door....

  • No, as long as I know they're inside, not on their bike a miles down the road.

  • they are inside. she is still young (6 1/2) so i watch her walk over there and tell her she has to come tell me if they want to go outside. but the mom seems really level headed so i know she wouldnt allow them to go outside in this weather.

  • If they were inside then no.... Unless you were under a tornado watch that may be a bit of an overreaction.

  • Just call & tell the Mom if your Daughter seems scared then you'll go over & get her if she wants.

  • okay. im weird and very helicoptery... and when its storming, i prefer to have them all here where i know they're safe. but i know she's safe over there too, like i said her friend's mom seems like a great mom. ill let her be, besides where i live, afternoon storms pass quickly.

  • If you trust the parents, which I assume you do since you sent her over there to begin with, I'd leave her be.

  • This happened toys the other day. I let her stay at the neighbors. I'm like you, though....it made me nervous.

  • Yeah, I'd let her stay. If things get really ugly (like tornadic activity) then I'd get her home. She's just next door, so you can literally keep an eye on things. This has happened to us, & I'm a big worry-wart too.

  • Yeah, I would let her stay as well. If you trust the mom enough to keep an eye on her, then you can trust her to keep the kids inside during a storm.
